Lt. Col. Colby Vokey, USMC (Ret.) is one of the finest military criminal defense lawyers I have ever met in my 34 years of practice. He is a true gunfighter. He never gives up and knows how to pin a prosecutor down. He holds the government to their burden and never lets them up. Colby Vokey is a defendant’s best chance in any military court room. He is THE Man.”- J. L. Siegel, Colonel, USMC (Ret.) Director, Mock Trial Program, Thomas Jefferson School of Law
Colby Vokey has the biggest set of cojones of any military defense counsel I have had the pleasure to know during my 45 years of service as an attorney handling military cases. He is aggressive, diligent, knowledgeable and unafraid to take on the government. I have and will continue to refer him cases because I know he will do the job.”- David M. Brahms, Brigadier General, USMC (Ret.), Former Staff Judge Advocate to the Commandant of the Marine Corps

My unit and I were deployed to Afghanistan from 2009 to 2010. My platoon and I operated out of FOB Ramrod in the Maywand district of Kandahar. When I arrived back from leave I learned that my platoon was under investigation. A few days later myself and other members of my platoon were transferred to Kandahar Air Base where I learned that I was being charged with the war crimes of premeditated murder , conspiracy to commit premeditated murder, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a human skull, impeding an investigation.
Upon arriving back in the states at Fort Lewis I was placed in pre-trial confinement in the regional Corrections Facility there on Fort Lewis. While I was being held in pre-trial confinement my wife had contacted Colby and explain my situation.
Soon after meeting Colby I faced my first court appearance where he argued my case and with his vast knowledge of military rules and regulations of military law was able to get two of my charges dropped at that time and my initial trial date was set.
After ten and a half months of being held in pre-trial confinement Colby was successful in getting me released from the Corrections Facility and placed on house arrest. After six months he was able to facilitate me being released from house arrest as well.
Facing life in prison I had every odd the world stacked against me. Colby kept in constant contact, his faith never wavered in my case. His methods of deduction for someone as simple as me seemed quite strange and going on just my word and the testimony of the other soldiers fought my battle tooth and nail.
I can say proudly with the biggest smile on my face that he fought the prosecution so hard that at times he had them arguing with themselves. I don’t know if I should add this in here or not but I can tell you that he had the prosecution so upset at one point that I thought the lead prosecutor was literally going to break down into tears.
Colby is an amazing man and not just for what he did for me with my case but for what he did for me personally. At my lowest points while being held in incarceration he helped me to keep my head up and believe in myself and my case just knowing that every time he was going to step into the courtroom that he would have both guns loaded and ready to go, you can tell that he really cares about his clients and truly loves his job.
After a long hard fight of almost two years Colby was finally able to get the government to dismiss all charges against me. I was finally a free man! I just hope that one day after you bring him on to your team that I will be able to read your testimonials with the same glorious results.
Thank you for taking the time to read my brief story I hope Colby is the man for you as well!
Sincerely,
M. W.
I contacted Colby to represent me as my lead attorney because he is a trustworthy individual, and I knew he was going to do everything in his power to fight for me and my career. I was charged with many different things; Colby fought for me ferociously, proficiently and calmly. He told my story inside the courtroom in a way no one else could.I saw Colby Vokey represent many service members, so when I invoked my right to remain silent, I knew I would only speak with COLBY VOKEY.

Colby Vokey is the real deal and Clint Eastwood could make one hell of a movie with his life story. He is a combat veteran from the first gulf war and he is one of the finest men that I have ever met. I got to spend a lot of time with Colby and I truly believe I am a better person for it. He was able to teach me things about myself that help me in my current job as an Engineering Manager, husband and father.I do not like to talk about my experiences in Afghanistan, but I will tell you it was a terrible time and very violent. It took a lot from me and many of my Marines as well. Out of the deployment I was charged with two counts of murder, two counts of assault, conduct unbecoming of an officer and a few others that I can’t remember. How I got in that predicament I will never be quite sure; just bad luck and bad politics within my unit.
I had a great military appointed lawyer but he still was working for the same organization that was trying to put me in prison for life. Something about that did not seem quite right to me; maybe I was a little paranoid. But, I do believe the more people you have working on your case the better off you will be.
If you are reading this most likely you are in the need of a lawyer. So, please do yourself a favor and talk to Colby, and he will honestly let you know if he is the Man for your case. If he feels he is not the best man for your case, he will point you in the right direction. That may sound crazy but that is just the kind of man Colby is.I wish I was a better writer tell you all of the great things about Colby Vokey. I consider him a great friend and I would do anything in the world to help him. Tonight, I will go home to my wife and two daughters because Colby was able to tell my story in a way the Jury could see how things happened from my perspective, with a case that the prosecution thought was a no contest case.

Colby Vokey is one of our most trusted and competent attorneys we have. Our non-profit organization, 10 years operational now, has had Colby handle our most difficult cases. He has handled many cases for military folks who come to us for help. Most recently, he won parole for Corey Clagett, an American soldier incarcerated in Ft Leavenworth for more than 10 years. Corey’s case had all but died, devoid of any hope, until Colby took his case less than 18 months ago. Now, Cory will see his freedom in March of 2016.As a retired Marine Corps Officer with more than 29 years of service, I have never come across a man as thoroughly knowledgeable in military law, or as aggressive as he is. His clients have an exceptionally strong and competent man with Colby in their corner.
I consider Colby to be one –if not the very best–we have in our “stable” of attorneys. I would want him to personally represent me if a situation were ever to arise.

I never could have fathomed being in the situation that I found myself, but there I was. And I was scared. I really didn’t know what to do. I was told that the safest thing was to get the best lawyer I could find, which eventually led me to being referred to Colby Vokey. Throughout the lengthy process that I went through, Colby was there every step of the way and happy to explain everything. He prevented me from falling off the mark and losing sight of who I was; regardless of the nature of the allegations, and what came with them. The professional and diligent work of Mr. Vokey allowed me to sleep easy knowing he was going to bat for me. This is a man who knows what he is doing, who easily makes trial counsel look incompetent. If someone I know ever gets into a situation that calls for the best legal defense they can find, Colby Vokey will undoubtedly be who I recommend.

Mr. Vokey provides the most thorough and sound legal advice for any service member that is being questioned or accused of wrong doing under the ROE or UCMJ. The political climate that exists on today’s battlefield forces the service member to accept a substantial increase in risk to self through a severely restricted ROE without always receiving the backing by their chain of command. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, Mr. Vokey will provide you with the most thorough, sound and intelligent advice you can receive to make sure your rights are not violated and your interests are protected. His experience as a Marine and his resume as a defender speak for themselves and you will want to be represented by an attorney like Mr. Vokey that knows exactly how the military justice system works.

Colby Vokey is top notch. My charge could have had an effect on my career and my personal life in a very negative way. He was knowledgeable and explained all of my options in terms that I could understand. He left the decision up to me and assured me that he would stand behind me no matter my choice; take a deal or go to trial. Ultimately, I took the deal. A very good deal. I am pleased and would recommend him to anyone. I would trust him in any type of case and give him a glowing recommendation. He is an asset to our community and to the legal system.
